Once upon a time, in the late 80’s, I was immersed in the avant-garde of experimental film making, club installations, set design for theater, the recipient of a Bessie award, an NEA fellowship, and ultimately creating very specific B/W expressionistic films that would weave into live performance and theater, such that years later, my work has been included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
Now, after twenty-five years of producing high end custom wall finishes as an artisan, working with pigments, marble dust and Italian lime plasters, I became intimate with their inherent (poetic) properties and wondrous luminosity. While creating these subtle backdrops upon which artwork was ultimately hung, I slowly began to realize my work could stand alone.
With a lifetime of looking at art, I could now concern myself with making bold, minimal and contemplative work, using primarily the materials I know and am passionate about.
